So apparently, as much as I hate starting to work on Every Light, once I get started the words just happen. Witness yesterday, when I whined and griped and moaned and stared at the blank page (as I've been doing for this particular chapter for a few weeks now), forced myself to write two crappy paragraphs, then blinked and found 1500 words on the page. For those wishing to play along, that means the rough draft is currently at 120,879 words. (And I almost always add words during editing, not subtract.) Projected end wordcount of rough draft: 200,000. \o/ Half of Chapter 13, a smidge of Chapter 14, and then chapters 25-35 to go (and 35 barely counts, it is hopefully going to be under 1000 words. I hope I hope I hope. Cooperate, you twits.) Hey maybe I'll finish this stupid thing someday. Tags: every light casts a shadow, gywo, poking kain with sharp sticks Feeling: accomplished

Today was a gorgeous day. 70s, sunny, breezy. Perfect. I wish I'd spent more of it outside, but I didn't realize how fantastic it was until too late. In other news, hornets are invading my apartment. (seriously.) I located one last Saturday, and another today. Thank God I have Raid under the sink (hello, allergy to bee stings, NICE TO SEE YOU) and that they were more interested in trying to get back through the window glass to outside than stinging me so I could Raid them good and proper. (by the way: yes, I understand, there are more humane solutions. I cannot use them without possibly subjecting myself to serious bodily harm. Sorry, but fuck humane in that circumstance. I'd kind of like to continue to live.) I called the management office to let them know about the hornets, and they sent the engineer up (an hour later LOL) with a can of Raid. I explained to him that I'd already killed it, but that I would really like to know how they are getting in here so I could, you know, stop them. He fiddled and poked at the window, then shrugged and said he didn't know, but that I could call back if another one got in. WTF. Thanks. ass. I think I am going to have Mike examine all things related to the window and find all places that might be allowing anything in, and work his engineering magic to fix them. I refuse to live without being able to open my windows (especially since my A/C is on the fritz and the heat here is always set high), and I would like to be able to open them SAFELY. In happier news, I went out to dinner tonight with my friend Stephanie from $hell_job. I hadn't seen her since I left, and it was really nice to chat and catch up. I've missed seeing her, and she's such a lovely and wonderful person. Alright, sleeping times now so I can get up and be ready to kick butt tomorrow.
